Flagrant lies? Fair enough Hamza is a liar and exaggerated hos won role in the programme. Chalabi is corrupt anyway and had not lived in Iraq since the 50's. Allawi was one of Saddam's boys before they turned the tables on him; he is one of the worst.

Sharistani? Flagrant lies? Sharistani made a mistake, thats different.
The first thing to note about him is that he said 'no' to Saddam and 'no' to Bazran when he came to persuade him to participate in the programme. For that he spent another 10 year in prison, separated from his family, being treated subhuman by Saddam's men and being beaten. That alone tells me Sharistani has principles. He is no crook. If he was imprisoned for anything else, eg spying for Iran, they would have killed him. They wanted him on that programme and he resisted no matter what the cost.

I'm not relieving him of all blame but
his wife, children and grandchildren can be proud of him

Mr Imad that is not true and I think it is very mean to include the professor in that list.
I don't believe Professor Shahristani lied at all. How do you know he wasn't misinformed?
He does really good charitable work for the Iraqi people and have seen in a few of his interviews telling the Americans to get out. He means good things for Iraq.

He told Americans to get out AND told Saddam to shove his nukes up his ass.....that means he risked his life several times for different reasons. How can that be such a bad thing?

I saw him and Terry Waite lecture and they are both brave men!

For a CBS interview "[t]he central message from Shahristani was that Saddam had converted his unfinished Baghdad subway system into a secret hiding place for his WMD stockpile.. . .[This] appeared to give substance to Bush Administration claims that Saddam had massive amaounts of WMD. They were safely cached beneath Baghdad."

With the advent of the Iran war, the project was shelved and later abandoned. It never got beyond the soil testing stage, so no tunnels naturally. As this is very old information, it must have been available to the Bush Senior administration prior to the 1991 war, among the mass of information collected from worldwide contractor sources at the time. I presume my assertion can be checked. Thus, Shahristani's lie was evidently concocted to build a story, which was also upheld by the US administration that must have been aware of its false foundations.'"

Why are you labelling him a deliberate liar when there is every possibility that this man (of previously reasonable character), made a mistake?
Has he got criminal history to judge him on?
Does he not deserve benefit of doubt?

Is there something about his character that makes you think he is a callous deliberate betrayer?

this is what surprised me more.....Prof S was on TV saying he forgave Saddam despite the fact they locked him up and treated him like dog for 11 years. Who else could do that? He does not even want Saddam punished for what he did to him personally. How forgiving is that?

Have you heard this saying?

Shahristani's history has revealed that he is a courageous Iraqi who would not deliberately betray his country. He is good man.

You shouldn't use your website to slander good people with good hearts and good intentions.

and for a parting comment, this is what I responded to a very distinguished physics professor from Harvard who is on intimate contact with Hussain when he queried my position:

"Immediately after that interview, I posed him with a query as to the authenticity of his claim, and he answered that 'somebody' told him so.
I replied that it was not in his stature to depend, in such public proclamations, solely on 'somebody's' account.

He did not respond to that.

Neither did he retract or apologize for that 'error', ever since."

thank you new in town for your post.i happen to be hussain shahrisrani's youngest doughter.i would like to tell every one who uses this website that we are ALL proud of him. He is doing what he belives is right and he will continue to do so.
as for him being a liar i disagree.i happen to think i know him much more than any of you.he told the press everything he knew.i think you should be happy about that because he did it for YOUR good.the weapons were not going to be used against him they were going to be used against you.he did everything he could to help people to find them so eveyone could stay safe.
thats all i have to say for now but before you start making accusations about my dad being a liar please get your facts right.

Hussain Al-Shahristani is not an iranian.he is an iraqi and you know it.you can lie to others and make them belive it but there is no point of lieing to yourself.
anyway i dont care,you are intiteled to your own opinions, belive that if you want to but go and research more and see what eltes Sayyad Sistani has said amout Hussain Al-Shahristani.
 

Pure Truth do not worry about the few sad and embittered people who criticize Sharistani. Sharistani is a courageous, compassionate and caring man. He is also a true Iraqi who has strong views about scientists who have the obligation to avoid developing and disseminating WMD. I think the people who criticize Sharistani are very jealous of his courage and willingness to oppose Saddam. He is a real man, unlike those who crumbled under Saddam's thumb. Those are the people with nothing to be proud of and you can pity their children. They have no decent role model to look to
