.

"A dispatch by an Islam Memo (Mufakirat Al-Islam) reporter reports that an Iraqi woman has stabbed a US marine in the chest during a forced search of her home at Al-Hayyat district in the city of Haditha. She was alone in the house with her two boys, a three years old Ahmad, and a two years old Mustafa.
The 22 years old married woman, Souad Mohammad Al-Hadithi, inflicted a deep knife wound in the marine's chest. As she tried to stab him a second time, the other marines opened fire and killed her in front of her two children.
The marines are now looking for her husband and have raided a carpentry shop in Al-Shurta district where he works.
A medical report from the Haditha hospital declared that Souad died from a single bullet to her head"

HELL NO, THIS IS IRAQ

Malaki has stated that he wants to rid Iraq of anything that commemorates Saddam Hussein. He wants to erase Saddam from Iraqi history. However, many things being destroyed are not exclusively remnants of Ba’ath Socialism or Saddam Hussein. They are Iraqi.

The true intentions of Malaki are evident: he wants to erase the concept of an Iraqi citizen. Don’t forget, Malaki was so "proud" of his Iraqi heritage that he fled the country and lived outside for decades. His first allegiance has always been to Iran, not Iraq.

In the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf War, a U.S. military unit was ordered to blow up a building in southern Iraq. The explosion created unexpected damage to the surrounding area as well as the deaths and injuries of several Iraqis. A young soldier approached an officer and asked, "Should we clean up the mess and take care of the injured people?" The officer replied,
"Hell no. This is Iraq."

Iraqi Embassy Upgrades Its D.C. Digs: The latest Iraqi government purchase for its U.S. mission is a $5.8 million mansion ... across the street from Vice President Cheney's official residence. The three-story, 1920 Tudor-style structure, with more than 7,000 square feet of space, will serve as Iraq's temporary embassy during renovations to its fading Dupont Circle mission. Plans are to eventually turn the Dupont Circle building into a cultural center for the exhibition of Iraqi art.

The mansion comes with bright skylights, inset lighting fixtures, a top-floor kitchenette with a built-in espresso machine, new hardwood floors and soft pistachio carpeting up the winding stairs. There are heated floors, a firefighting system, speakers for music throughout the building, and spacious bathrooms, one with a Jacuzzi.

Overseeing the effort is Sumaidaie, an electrical engineer by training, a poet and Islamic art connoisseur by inclination. His soon-to-be-vacated Dupont Circle office is a study in good lighting and precision. There is chaos in Iraq, but his working space exudes maximum control: a sleek computer screen, a yellow pad, Mont Blanc pens in a wooden case, rows of rulers, cellphones.

Asked about spending oil revenue on embassy buildings while Iraq is in the throes of war, Sumaidaie turned off the television's sound. "Rebuilding is part of our recovery, regaining normalcy is part of our recovery," he replied. "It is building, not destroying."

. . . and this is Dick.
The Strange World of Dick Cheney: Vice President Dick Cheney, keeping as far from federal prosecutors as possible these days, arrived in Japan Wednesday to officially thank that country for supporting the Bush-Cheney administration's invasion and occupation of Iraq.

What made the trip even more comic than Cheney's usual campaigning on behalf of the war ... was the fact that he was thanking an ally that is not exactly in the alliance.

If the Japan Appreciation Day mission was bizarre, the vice president's speech in a hangar bay at the Yokosuka Naval Base near Tokyo was downright delusional. "The American people will not support a policy of retreat," Cheney chirped. "We want to complete the mission, we want to get it done right, and then we want to come home, with honor."

. . . and this is Dick's triumph.

Uruknet passes Google News in significance and becomes the main net information site on war in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Near East -
Dear Paola, Vincenzo and all the good people connected and gathered around Uruknet and the friendly sites around: as you have noticed we all love each other. That is why we will fulfil our tasks and accomplish our tasks in this war. Let the enemy, these treacherous death-merchants, barbarians, who wanted to turn the Earth, our home, into this ‘zoo’ face Justice! These not more so United States of Monsters. We all serve the right. The right will prevail. Unity means ‘Life’.

Chris Floyd, The Goat Song of Tony Blair: Presaging the End of the Iraq Misadventure: The British retreat from Abu Naji was ... a canary in the mineshaft, pointing the way to the latest withdrawal and foreshadowing the larger bug-out to come. There is really no other way for the murderous tomfoolery of Bush's idiotic and criminal invasion to end: under fire, in disarray, by fits and starts, in desperation and deception.

These are a just a few things that could be done to lessen the blow. But they will not be done -- even when Bush and Blair are no longer in power -- because too many in the American and British Establishments share the arrogant and ignorant assumptions that led to the invasion of Iraq and the brutal, blundering occupation in the first place. One such assumption is that the Anglo-American powers have the right and duty to dominate world affairs -- and that they can, will and should enforce this right with military force, if need be. There is no figure in the national political firmaments of either country who does not buy into that unspoken -- indeed, often unconscious -- assumption. Or rather, there is no dissenter from that assumption who has the remotest chance of coming to power in either country.

Michel Chossudovsky, "Theater Iran Near Term" (TIRANNT): Code named by US military planners as TIRANNT, "Theater Iran Near Term" has identified several thousand targets inside Iran as part of a "Shock and Awe" Blitzkrieg, which is now in its final planning stages.

According to the Kuwait-based Arab Times, an attack on Iran under TIRANNT could occur any time between late February and the end of April. This assessment, however, does not take into account the disarray of US ground forces in Iraq as well as the untimely withdrawal of several thousand British troops from the Iraq war theater, many of whom were stationed in Southern Iraq on the immediate border with Iran.

With the exception of the Middle East, the war on Iran and the dangers of escalation are not considered "front page news." All of which contributes to the real possibility that the war could be carried out, leading to the unthinkable: a nuclear holocaust over a large part of the Middle East. It should be noted that a nuclear nighmare would occur even if nuclear weapons are not used. The bombing of Iran's nuclear facitlities using conventional weapons would contribute to unleashing a Chernobyl type disaster with extensive radioactive fallout

Ramzy Baroud, The Final Punch: Removing Iran from the New Middle East Equation: Evidently, Israel is a prime cheerleader for war, and most likely Israeli agents are working overtime to provide the needed case for war; at least we know, through news reports that Israeli agents are actively involved in Iraq and there is a possibility that they have penetrated the Iranian domain as well, through the northern Kurdish areas. ...

Other Israeli politicians have been adamant in their efforts to convince Washington that a war against Iran will yield strategic dividends and will ease the US mission in reigning in occupied Iraq, and will provide Israel with the security it covets. Of course, Israel knows well the disastrous affect that a war on Iran will bring to the waning American empire (even if merely by observing the Iraqi situation) but it matters little in the end, as long as the Iranian threat is eliminated, or so goes the Israeli logic.

Gates who shall be responsible for protecting America, not the President or the VP, nor will it be Chertoff and HOMELAND Security. As a matter of interest, either the president or the vice president is supposed to remain in the country at all times "especially during moments of high international tensions" so why are they both going to be abroad at the same time NOW?

Ten armed guards were arrested, and 10 computers and 15 small electricity generators kept for donation to families of killed journalists were seized.

There is a growing belief in Iraq that U.S. allies in the current Iraqi government are leading the U.S. military to raid places and people who do not follow Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's directions.

"The Americans and their Iraqi government followers are destroying social activities and civil unions so that no group can oppose their crimes and plans," 55-year-old lawyer Hashim Jawad of the Iraqi Lawyers Union in Baghdad told IPS. Political Survivor Gets Post As Public Liaison; Does Bigger Role Loom?
(Wall Street Journal, February 23, 2007, Pg. 1)
In his latest remarkable political reincarnation, onetime U.S. favorite Ahmed Chalabi has secured a position inside the Iraqi government that could help determine whether the Bush administration's new push to secure Baghdad succeeds. In a new post created earlier this year, Chalabi will serve as an intermediary between Baghdad residents seeking compensation for damage caused by security sweeps, but he is already speaking ambitiously about playing a larger role in economic, health and reconstruction efforts as well.

America is a nation of liars. Our businesses have developed complex and convoluted personnel management systems designed to substantiate lies for the purposes of excusing the otherwise wrongful dismissal of employees. Our businesses have almost uniformly used lies to backdate stock options for high level corporate employees and to steal billions from shareholders in this and a myriad of other ways. Every one of our governments at every level has a code of silence and lying designed to effect substantiation of decisions made and actions taken that are supported only by lies. Our science research institutions verify and re-verify endlessly the lies of other scientists. And our academic institutions are no better. Our courtrooms are so full of lies, liars and judges quite willing to adjudicate based upon what they know are lies made in testimony given before them, it is a national disaster that makes anyone rightly fear the court systems. And, our elected representatives commonly refuse to participate in public discourse during which they could be caught up in the lies upon which their careers have been built.

And yet, even in the face of an all pervasive ethic of lying in America, this President, his Cabinet as well as all his journalist attendants have perpetrated lies that have been so devastating, that have killed so many, and that have caused such utter disrepute, even to a disreputable nation, the perpetrators of these lies cannot escape with our simply washing their mouths out with soap. ...

If there were one honest man in Washington D.C. not too shy to speak up, none of this would have ever happened and the calamity could have been avoided. If there is a single man ashamed enough now of the lies that have killed so many, the President, his Cabinet and their attendant journalists will not be allowed to continue unarrested.

This is a very large organized crime family we are dealing with. They should all be arrested. All their wealth should be seized. They should be tried and hung.

Nabil's Blog, Life in Baghdad: Now people are even afraid to say their full names or in which district they live, we started to experience this even at college, some of our friends changed their names and made fake IDs for themselves, trying to protect themselves, others just left their houses and their neighbourhoods and moved to another places because they received death threats, such threats said "either you leave the area, or you will be killed", my ex-girlfriend and her family were forced to leave their house, she was a shiite living in a sunni distrist, and her family received a death threats telling them to evacuate their house in 24 hours or they all will be killed, other friends of mine just couldn't stand the situation and left the country and went to Jordan or Syria.

xymphora, Chomsky hits a home run with Lenin on base: " ... You can imagine a kind of a loose Shi’ite alliance in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, controlling most of the world’s oil and independent of the United States.”

I’m sticking with my conspiracy analysis that everything the Bush Administration does can be explained on three grounds, not necessarily in order of importance:

1. political power, and its retention;
2. money (this is the necessary, and sufficient, explanation for Cheney’s involvement; whatever happened to those Halliburton options, anyway?); and
3. at least in the Middle East, Zionism.

Matthew Cardinale, Bush Indictment Drafted by Former Federal Prosecutor: Elizabeth de la Vega, a former federal prosecutor, has written a new best-selling book, US v. Bush, which includes a federal indictment against President George W. Bush and other top administration officials for conspiracy to defraud US Congress and the American people over the need to invade Iraq. It also includes a fictional grand jury proceeding based on the completely factual drafted indictment.

The book, published by Seven Stories Press, is 241 pages, but the pages are smaller than typical pages. For such a cute little book and quick read, it’s one of the most important books on the apparent criminality of the Bush Administration to date. [. . .]

Borrowing from the Enron case, she says, “It is not President Bush’s United States. It is the American people’s United States." And that's the crux of the matter. (emphasis added)
