Five years on from Hutton and we STILL haven't been told the truth about the war based on lies: ... Tony Blair told Parliament and the British people that Britain went to war to rid Saddam Hussein of weapons of mass destruction - yet he seems to have been told in advance by the Iraqi intelligence chief that these WMD did not exist. The war - in short - was based on a fraud.

As every day passes, Lord Hutton's judgment that Tony Blair and his leading officials were men of integrity looks more and more flawed. Five years on, his verdict has fallen to pieces. Britain now urgently needs a full-scale inquiry into the causes and prosecution of the Iraq War.

The first step should be the publication - strenuously resisted by the Government - of minutes from two key Cabinet meetings in the build-up to war.

This week, an Information Tribunal ruled that the documents must be made available, on the basis of exceptional public interest. That has infuriated ministers, who are now expected to appeal to the High Court to have the ruling overturned.

Far from resolving the many flaws in Hutton's report with full and frank disclosure about the facts surrounding Dr David Kelly's death, it is all too obvious why the Brown government is determined to keep them concealed for as long as possible.

U.S. professors call for academic and cultural boycott of Israel: The idea of an academic boycott against Israel originated in 2001 at the "World Conference Against Racism" in Durban, South Africa. A first attempt to implement a boycott was undertaken by British professors in the wake of Israel's 2002 Operation Defensive Shield and the Jenin massacre claim. Since then, British academics tried several times to establish boycotts, with the latest such effort failing because legal advisers a few months ago pointed out that academic boycotts are discriminatory and thus illegal. Yet, analysts say that another British boycott campaign is to be expected in the follow up of Cast Lead.

In the U.S., on the other hand, only a few professors have supported the idea of an academic boycott. In 2006, the American Association of University Professors declared its objection to the British boycott, saying members, "especially oppose selective academic boycotts that entail an ideological litmus test."

In 2007, nearly 300 university presidents across the United States signed a statement denouncing the boycott, under the motto "Boycott Israeli Universities? Boycott Ours, Too!"

First indications that the climate might change in light of the Gaza operation could be seen earlier this month when the Canadian Union of Public Employees Ontario proposed, "Israeli academics be barred from speaking, teaching or conducting research at the province's universities unless they condemn Israel's actions in Gaza," as the Inside Higher Ed Web site reported. "The usual anti-Israel suspects in U.S. universities may sign on to the petition, but it won't amount to much," predicted Mitchell Bard, executive director at the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise, which seeks to strengthen the pro-Israel camp at American colleges. "If it becomes a widespread effort, I'm sure some effort will be given to countering it,* but it is out of touch with the mood in the country," he said. "Israel has near record high support, [U.S. President Barack] Obama has just taken office with a positive message and the focus will be on moving the peace process forward, not sideshows by anti-Semites and cranks among American pseudo-academics."

* The "lobby" will pull out all stops to counter pressure put upon Israel. Their black bag of tricks, well practiced over the past century, includes blackmail, bribery, assassination, disinformation, and the employ of trillions of stolen dollars.

Turkish PM storms off in Gaza row: Turkey's prime minister has stormed off the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos after a heated debate on Gaza with Israel's president.

"The tragedy of Gaza is not Israel, it is Hamas," the Israeli leader said.

"Why did they fire rockets? There was no siege against Gaza. Why did they fight us, what did they want? There was never a day of starvation in Gaza."

Controversial scholar slams Israeli 'massacre' of Gaza civilians: Dr. Norman Finkelstein speaking at the University of Alberta on January 22, 2009. His talk dealt with Israel's responsibility in the situation in Gaza and the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

He accused Canadian political leaders of unwittingly helping to bring about the demise of Israel by supporting its disregard of the rule of law.

"If Israel continues on this path, there can't be any doubt that it will be destroyed," said Finkelstein. By endorsing an unjust war against civilians, "Harper, Ignatieff and the rest support putting Israel in a path where it can't possibly survive much longer. And when that destruction comes to pass, the blood will be on their filthy, filthy hands."
