Comments:

Don't worry -- President Bush's and General Petreus' "surge" has worked so well that America can now pull all of its troops out of Iraq, so that they can "win an equally resounding 'victory'" in Afghanistan. Why, things are going so swimmingly in Iraq, that it merits only about 10 seconds on the CBS / ABC / NBC evening news programs (I checked last night). Tiger Woods' (alleged) marital indiscretions are clearly so much more important, they get about 10 minutes worth of coverage. Gotta drill down to the relevant stuff, wouldn't you say?

BTW, according to the last CNN poll, 45% of Americans now have a "positive" impression of Sarah Palin, and her numbers are climbing as Obama's are eroding.

Forget about learning Arabic or Pashto -- let's start learning Persian and Farsi, boys, for it's off to the beach-head in Iran! (BTW, don't forget that lead underwear. The background glow in your Iranian foxhole may feel a bit on the warm side, without some "protection".)

On second thought, maybe you had better learn Urdu as well, for when we invade Pakistan... after all, if we could do so well after invading Iraq while we're outnumbered 10 to 1, we must be able to do just as good in Pakistan, where the odds are 100 to 1! No Nervous Nellies need apply, President-to-Be Palin (assisted of course by Secretary of State Rush Limbaugh and Defense Secretary Beck) say it will be a cake-walk, for fine, upstanding, Christian WhiteMen!

;-)

The world is coming to an end - hastened, thank you very much, by our good selves - and they give us Tiger Woods. As usual, nothing but distractions, to keep us from thinking about / knowing about what really is going on.

Video (brief): Lies and damn lies

The World's Least Powerful Man: The Obama Puppet - It didn’t take the Israel Lobby very long to bring President Obama to heel regarding his prohibition against further illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land. Obama discovered that a mere American president is powerless when confronted by the Israel Lobby and that the United States simply is not allowed a Middle East policy separate from Israel’s.

Obama also found out that he cannot change anything else either, if he ever intended to do so.

The military/security lobby has war and a domestic police state on its agenda, and a mere American president can’t do anything about it.

President Obama can order the Guantanamo torture chamber closed and kidnapping and rendition and torture to be halted, but no one carries out the order.

Essentially, Obama is irrelevant.

President Obama can promise that he is going to bring the troops home, and the military lobby says, “No, you are going to send them to Afghanistan, and in the meantime start a war in Pakistan and maneuver Iran into a position that will provide an excuse for a war there, too. Wars are too profitable for us to let you stop them.”

And the mere president has to say, “Yes, Sir!”

Obama Far Outdoes Bush in Escalating War: The Bush surge in Iraq deployed an extra 28,000 US troops. Under Obama, back in March, a surge in Afghanistan, that also further escalated operations inside Pakistan, deployed an extra 21,000 troops. However, in an unannounced and underreported move, Obama added 13,000 more troops to that surge to bring the total to 34,000 troops. Obama actually outdid Bush’s surge by 6000 troops and brought the overall number of US troops in Afghanistan to 68,000, double the number there when Bush left office.

Where opposition was fierce to Bush’s surge, barely any opposition was expressed during Obama’s surge. Part of the reason for so little political and public backlash was the cleverly orchestrated psychological operation to announce the beginning of US troop withdrawal from Iraq. While the drawdown in Iraq has been greatly exaggerated in the US mainstream media, as of October, Obama still had 124,000 troops deployed in Iraq (not counting private military contractors).

When Obama casts the illusion of a 2011 withdrawal from Afghanistan, one just needs look at the reality of the situation with the over-hyped withdrawal in Iraq.

Now, with Obama’s latest surge announcement he will again be adding a minimum of another 30,000 US soldiers. This means that Obama has now led a bigger surge than Bush… on two separate occasions within the past nine months of his new administration.

Obama has now escalated deployments in the Af-Pak region to 98,000 US troops. So in Af-Pak and Iraq, he will now have a total of 222,000 US troops deployed, 36,000 more than Bush ever had - 186,000 was Bush’s highest total.

More than 120 killed in Baghdad bombings

US Refuses To Allow Monitoring Of WMD: WMD treaty violations and inspection refusal for biological, nuclear, chemical weapons. Iran? No, US : President Obama rejected inspection protocol for US biological weapons, in Orwellian contradiction to his statement to strengthen the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC). This comes after increased US investment in bio-weapons during the Bush Administration with multiple reports of secret and illegal programs.

The last biological attack, anthrax in the US in 2001, was weaponized and supplied by a US military facility. The official suspect was reported as “committing suicide.” ...

Analysis: The US has invaded and occupied the Middle Eastern countries of Iraq, Afghanistan, is bombing Pakistan, and aggresses toward war with Iran. These acts of war are all unlawful. The US employs Orwellian psychopathic rhetoric to threaten Iran from empty allegations of their “nuclear program” and needing to “fulfill their legal obligations” while hypocritically in murderous violation of their own from several treaties structured to protect humanity. You have to read these facts and analysis from non-corporate media sources, such as here, as corporate media will echo justification of current unlawful wars and propagandize for escalation and new wars.

I’ve thought about how to pierce this Orwellian political and media counter-reality. One way to do so is to imagine if the US were in Iran’s position and China acting as the US. The vicious propaganda the US employs could also be turned against us.

Why Do Airstrikes in Afghanistan Keep Killing Exactly 30 People? Pentagon policy from the Rumsfeld days on acceptable kill rates still seems to be the guiding logic for what field commanders are telling the news media.

In other words, the Pentagon determined that 30 casualties, even if they were civilian, were too few to matter politically or to attract the attention of the press for more than a few words. If commanders expected more civilian casualties than that, political leaders had to sign off on the attack in advance to make sure they were prepared for the PR fall-out.

ِAhmed (Abu Sh-hab) is indeed a Haji (made the pilgrimage to Mecca) since 1966, as Aram Roston documented in his book “The Man Who Pushed America to War” (2008).

Ahmed and his minions brag that he is a math wizard. However, his calculus of Iraq’s politics illustrated that he is a jackass to the nth exponent, his PhD in math notwithstanding.

The stenographer’s error (or perhaps a version of a Freudian slip) is yet another humiliation only befitting of a quisling of the ilk of Ahmed al Chalabi.

Here is how John Burns of the New York Times reported it:

“But there have been no disruptions inside the hearings, and even some light-hearted moments. Some have flowed from overhead monitors offering a running transcript of the hearings, and what they have betrayed of the stenographers’ struggles with unfamiliar military terms or Arab names. One controversial figure in Iraqi politics, Ahmed Chalabi, appeared on the monitors as “ Alcohol Chalabi
,” to subdued merriment.”.....

Chilcot censors Iraq inquiry's live broadcast: The broadcast was stopped as Greenstock was speaking about how the US drew up plans on the basis of a "best-case scenario" in Iraq. Immediately before being cut off he said: "When I talked to other members of the American team, when I talked informally to the military, to the intelligence agencies, to other people who were operating, I found a very much more gloomy prognosis of what was going on than I felt or understood ambassador Bremer [Paul Bremer, the chief US civil administrator in Baghdad] was reporting back to the Pentagon."

Greenstock earlier himself said that relations between the US and UK, including what the US told British officials about conditions in Abu Ghraib, the Iraqi prison where US soldiers abused Iraqi detainees, was "a matter for private discussion". The incidents suggest evidence is being suppressed to avoid political or diplomatic embarrassment rather than genuine issues affecting national security.

He told the inquiry the government did not like the designation of Britain as an "occupying power" of Iraq along with the US even though that was the status under international law. Greenstock said London did not like the image it created, comparable, he said, to the "Israeli occupation of Palestine".

War crime case against Tony Blair now rock-solid

THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS SERIAL KILLER: Despite the Goldstone Report and the recent arrest warrants issued, Israel continues with their criminal spree against the Palestinian people on a daily basis. The following report gives a pretty good idea of just what is happening in Jerusalem alone.
