من اللذين مد الإحتلال يده إليهم للعمالة

ـ"عندما دخلت البيت الواقع على أطراف مدينة لاهاي الهولندية وجدت نفسي بين عشرات العراقيين من اليساريين والمثقفين وأصحاب اللحى المدججين بالخواتم والمسابح وأجهزة الموبايل، بعد ذلك دخل ثلاثة أجانب تعلن عنهم أناقتهم ولغتهم وبشرتهم البيضاء ( ثلاثة أمريكيين أحدهم من أصل يوغسلافي) وهذا الأخير خبير بحرب البوسنة والهرسك. ثم بدءوا محاضرتهم عن كيفية إسقاط الأنظمة البالغة القسوة والقوة. فاتني القول أن ما أرويه لكم حدث قبل الاحتلال الأمريكي للعراق عندما وجه الدعوة لنا الصحفي (إسماعيل زاير) بعد إلحاح لم نعرف أسبابه قبل غلق الباب خلفنا. ـ

وعندما أدركت أن المتكلم المهذب يعرف عني الكثير رجوته الاختصار ودوائر الأمريكيين الثلاثة لا تفارق ذاكرتي، فقال ما مضمونه " أن العراق مقبل على تغيير كبير وتاريخي ونحن وبسبب الانقطاع الطويل عن الوطن لا توجد لدينا خيوط اتصال مع الشارع العراقي ونحتاج إلى فتح مقرات ومكاتب في مدن الجنوب والوسط ونبحث عن أشخاص معروفين في هذه المدن ولديهم عائلات معروفة وعلاقات طيبة ويجيدون الكلام والإقناع".ـ
فسألته والألم يعتصرني :ـ
ـ إذا أنا مثلما تقول من عائلة شهداء ونضال وسياسة فهل مثلي يصلح لهكذا مهمة، فقال
ـ لا تقلق سندفع راتبين واحدا لك في العراق لتسيير الأعمال والثاني لعائلتك في هولندة، فقلت له
ـ قل لي بصراحة تريدونني (سياسي لو عميل) ؟ فقال
ـ أنت لا تصلح للعمالة"ـ

Spilled milk? Iraqi-American academics .. عشتار العراقية كشفت المستور

In a recent distribution, an impressive list (4.5 MB PDF) is offered of more than 300 Iraqi-American academics who were invited to attend an "Iraqi Academic Conference" during March 14-15, 2009 "To Help Improve and Sustain Higher Education in Iraq".
This event was hosted by The National Academies, Washington D.C. in collaboration with the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Iraq in Wash. D.C.
Impressive, indeed.
But what did they meet for? What was the purpose of their gathering? What is the connect with Iraq?
The released list of attendees does not contain any agenda, deliberations or resolutions for that event.
A search of The National Academies web site for "Iraqi" yields nothing on this gathering.
The Iraqi Embassy's declared intention for holding the event was devoid of any sustainable concrete venues.
The only available feedback on what transpired is posted on the U.S. Department of Defense's Military Health System Blog.
So much for Iraq's belated benefit to the educational system resulting from the six years of American occupation.

It appears that the above event was staged for the benefit of Kurdish interests, abetted by a fervent American "professor", namely Carole O'Realy, who serves too well the State Department, the Pentagon and Ammar Al-Hakim (pictured below). (See also her statement before the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on April 3, 2009).

"Let the Numbers Speak"

"Six years into the occupation…
- 72 months of destruction
- $607 Billions spent on the war
- 2 Million Barrels of oil being sold per day
- 2 Million Displaced Iraqis inside of Iraq
- 3 Million Iraqis forced to leave the country
- 2615 professors, scientists, and doctors killed in cold blood
- 338 dead journalists
- $13 Billion misplaced by the current Iraqi government
- $400 Billion required to rebuild the Iraqi infrastructure
- 3 hours average of electricity daily
- 24 car bombs per month
- 7 major mafias running the country
- 4260 Americans dead
- 10,000 cases of cholera per year
- 50 of my friends dead
- 22 of my relatives dead
- 15 abductions of close relatives and people I know and love
- At least 1.3 million Iraqis dead since 2003.
Six years into the occupation and somehow, the numbers are not looking better. Year after dismal year, the numbers of dead and displaced grow as we continue to reap the rewards of an American occupation on our country.
So the numbers speak for themselves. Six. Six months is what it took for most Iraqis to realize no good could come of this war and occupation. Six years is what it has taken the rest of the world. Six years, six million Iraqis displaced inside and outside of Iraq- well over a million Iraqis dead or dying inside of the country.
As a scientist, as a researcher- it is a disaster that will never be sufficiently documented with numbers or words. As a researcher, the numbers are so astounding that we go back and recalculate to make sure they are real. As an Iraqi, it is enraging. The numbers and statistics fill me with a rage and shame that make my heart throb and my blood boil. It’s a rage towards all who are silent and uncaring, and a shame at the little we all are doing.

Dr. Souad Naji Al-Azzawi is a former Vice-President of Mamoun University of Scientific Affaires; former professor of environmental engineering at Baghdad Univ. , recipient of the 2003 Nuclear-Free Future Award for her work on environmental contamination after the Gulf War in Iraq . She published 50 Papers in hazardous Waste management and Radiological Pollution from the use of Depleted Uranium Weapons in Iraq . Depleted Uranium Radioactive Contamination In Iraq

ـ"دأب الإخوة والأخوات أعضاء البرلمان العراقي على سن القوانين التي تعطيهم الامتيازات ،فمنذ الجلسة الأولى التي حددوا فيها مقدار الراتب والمخصصات وحتى يومنا الحاضر عملوا بتفان وبتوافق بل إجماع ليستزيدوا من الخيرات . ـ
هكذا الحال وللأسف ، أناس كان همهم جيوبهم ومصالحهم ، والأسف كل الأسف كنت ممن انتخبهم متصوراً أني أساهم في بناء بلد المؤسسات فيا لغبائي . ـ
لا أريد التجني على الأعضاء المحترمين ، واترك الحكم للأرقام ، فلغة الأرقام دوماً صادقة . ـ
راتب النائب في البرلمان بحدود( 30000 ) ألف دولار ويصل إلى ( 40000 ) ألف دولار بإضافة راتب الحماية الشخصية وعددهم ( 30 ) شخصا وكذلك مصروفات الطعام والايفادات. إذا شهريا يبلغ مجموع رواتب الأعضاء مع حماياتهم (11000000 ) احد عشر مليون دولار، وخلال سنة واحدة مجموع الرواتب يساوي( 132000000) مائة واثنان وثلاثون مليون دولار ، وخلال دورة برلمانية واحدة سيدفع البلد للبرلمانيين ما مجموعه( 528000000) خمسمائة وثمان وعشرون مليون دولار ، هذا مع عدم احتساب رواتب مجلس رئاسة البرلمان ويصل إلى ( 50000) ألف دولار للشخص الواحد وكذلك عدم احتسابنا لمبلغ المنافع الاجتماعية الذي نجهل مقداره.
عضو البرلمان يتقاضى بمفرده سنوياً( 360000 ) ثلاثمائة وستون ألف دولار أي خلال دورة برلمانية سيصل مجموع رواتبه إلى (1440000) مليون وأربعمائة وأربع وأربعون ألف دولار ، ولو فرضنا جدلاً توزيع مجموع تلك الرواتب على عموم الشعب العراقي البالغ عددهم ثلاثين مليون فرد لكانت حصة الفرد الواحد( 13.2) دولارا أما توزيع مجموع الرواتب(مع الحمايات) سيصل تلك الحصة إلى (17.6 ) دولارا
العراق يصدر شهرياً (1000 ) برميل من النفط لسداد راتب نائب واحد وبهذا فأننا نخصص ( 275000) برميل نفط شهريا فقط لسداد رواتب الأعضاء ، وسنويا حصة النائب الواحد ستصل إلى( 12000 ) برميل وخلال أربع سنوات ستصل حصته إلى( 48000 ) برميل هذا على فرض أن سعر برميل النفط العراقي يبلغ (30 ) دولارا وفي الواقع أن العراق يبيع نفطه بأقل من هذا السعر، هذا الرقم يعادل إنتاج حقول مجنون من النفط في اليوم الواحد أي أننا سنخصص واردات حقول مجنون لسداد رواتب الإخوة النواب لمدة( 275 ) يوم وإذا أضفنا الحمايات سيصبح كل إنتاج حقول مجنون من النفط خلال سنة كاملة لتغطية رواتب البرلمانيين لدورة واحدة. ـ
خلال دورة برلمانية واحدة يكلفنا البرلمان( 17600000) برميل نفط(سبعة عشر مليون وستمائة ألف برميل) ويعادل تصدير العراق لمدة( 11.73) يوم. ـ
يتعين حامل شهادة البكالوريوس براتب يصل إلى( 400 ) دولار شهريا أي أن راتب نائب واحد يعادل راتب (75) موظف شهريا، ومجموع رواتب الأعضاء يعادل راتب( 20625) موظفا ، هذا العراقي سيكون أسرة فيما لو تعين بهذا الراتب، أي إن رواتبهم تعادل إنشاء أكثر من عشرين ألف أسرة عراقية ، بإضافة رواتب الحمايات يزداد هذا الرقم بمقدار (8250) . ـ
وزارة التعليم العالي أعلنت أن دراسة طالب البعثات كي يحص على شهادة الدكتوراه من الخارج تكلفها حوالي( 200) مليون دينار عراقي ، وبحسابات بسيطة يعادل مجموع رواتب الأعضاء كل شهر تكاليف (46.11 ) طالب بعثة دراسية لمدة أربع سنوات أي خلال دورة برلمانية ستصرف رواتب تعادل تكاليف( 553.38) من طلبة البعثات للحصول على الدكتوراه . ـ
ميزانية وزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي لهذا العام بحدود (200 ) مليون دولار أي ان مجموع رواتب الاخوة النواب في سنة واحدة تشكل حوالي 70% من ميزانية وزارة تشرف على اكثر من عشرين جامعة .. ـ
ساعة النائب الواحد سعرها (41.11) دولار وهي تعادل يومية ثلاثة من عمال البناء ، أي ان راتبه اليومي يعادل اجرة( 72) عامل بناء . ـ
الأزمة المعاشية والضنك المادي جعل الشباب يعزفون عن الزواج ، فمن اين للشاب ان يوفر حوالي أربعة الآلاف دولار لسداد تكاليف الزواج من غرفة ومهر وغيرها من متطلبات . راتب الأخ النائب أو الأخت النائبة شهرياً يغطي نفقات سبعة زيجات ونصف أي أن مجموع رواتب الأعضاء دون حماياتهم خلال شهر يكفي( 2062.5) شاب لكي يتزوج وخلال سنة فأننا نستطيع تزويج ( 24750) شخص وخلال دورة برلماني سيصل العدد إلى (99000) متزوج في الحد الأدنى ." ــ

In summary, they awarded themselves their own salaries by giving themselves a monthly salary of US$30,000 with an additional US$10,000 monthly payment for their own security personnel. Hence, the total monthly salary of the 275 members is US$11,000,000. The total salary for a four year term for each member is US$1,440,000.
This is aside from the US$50,000 monthly salary of the members of the presidency of the parliament. The retirement pension of Al-Mashhadani, the recently forced out president of the parlaiment for his unprofessional mannerism, is US$40,000 a month.

The below interview (in Arabic) is with Dr. Mohamad Al-Falahi, the head of the Society of Patriotic Writers Against the Occupation in which he criticizes the Iraqi journalists' professional degradation (in Iraqi 44 TV channels, 60 radio stations and 240 local newspapers) to the mere role of parroting western media investigations in prominent cases, such as the torturing of prisoners [in Fallujah for example], the brutal transgressions of the occupier's forces and mercenaries in many Iraqi cities [in Hit for example], and the siphoning of billions of dollars by corrupt Iraqi government officials and US companies. He attributes their condescending profile to their fear of expected severe retribution from high government officials and politicians as well as brutal retributions from known armed militias pointing to the high number of assassinated Iraqi journalists in the past few years.

ـ"في إطار تقييم الوضع الإعلامي بالعراق بمناسبة مرور الذكرى السادسة للحرب عليه واحتلاله وإسقاط نظام الحكم فيه، اتهم الدكتور محمد الفلاحي رئيس جمعية الكتاب الوطنيين المناهضين للاحتلال في العراق وسائل إعلام مرئية ومقروءة بالوقوف خلف تراجع وتخلف الصحافة العراقية عن نظيرتها الغربية العاملة بالعراق.ـ
وقال الفلاحي في لقاء مع "العرب" في بغداد: إن تفوق الإعلام الغربي من جميع النواحي المهنية سببه تملق وخوف وسائل الإعلام من الحكومة والسياسيين والجماعات المسلحة، على عكس الصحافة الغربية التي نجحت في الكشف عن الكثير من الحقائق بالعراق منها كشف فضائح التعذيب وانتهاكات قوات الاحتلال وفساد المسؤولين العراقيين وضياع مليارات الدولارات من الخزينة العراقية.وبيَّن الفلاحي أن أغلب تلك الوسائل الإعلامية كالفضائيات والصحف ومحطات الإذاعة، إما أنها تخشى النشر وكشف المستور وإما أنها تتملق وتجامل وإما أنها تشارك في السلبيات التي تحدث بالعراق بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر.ـ
وقال -على هامش مؤتمر عُقد ببغداد حول الفوضى الإعلامية بالعراق ومدى الحرية التي وصل إليها الإعلام في "عراق ما بعد الاحتلال"-: إن الإعلام الغربي أثبت تفوقه من مختلف النواحي فقد تمكن من إدارة الآلة الإعلامية بالعراق منذ أول أيام الحرب وحتى الآن، وما رافق الحرب من كوارث كانت الصحف الأميركية والأوروبية هي صاحبة السبق، كما أن عجز الحكومة عن التحرش بتلك الوسائل وعدم وجود سلطة لها على تلك الصحف أسهم إيجابا بالكشف عن الكثير من الحالات وكانت الصحافة العراقية أشبه ما يكون بطائر الببغاء الناطق الذي يردد ما يسمعه ويقرؤه من تلك الوسائل، وفي بعض الأحيان تخشى حتى النقل منها.ـ
وأضاف الفلاحي أن طرد قناة "الجزيرة" الفضائية من العراق وإغلاق مكتبها وكذلك قناة "الشرقية" الفضائية التي يملكها الإعلامي العراقي سعد البزاز.. كل ذلك أسهم إلى حد بعيد في تفرد الصحافة الغربية بالبلاد.ـ
واستطرد قائلا: هذا لا يعني أن الصحافة الغربية كانت نزيهة في تعاطيها مع ملف المقاومة العراقية، فقد كانت إلى حدٍّ ما إلى جانب ما تسميه نبذ العنف، وركزت في كثير من الأحيان على أنهم متمردون أو إرهابيون، وهو ما يردده الأميركيون والحكومات التي تعاقبت في بغداد، لكنها من ناحية أخرى أثبتت صدقتيها في كشف التغلغل الإيراني والميليشيات والفساد المالي والإداري بالعراق، وجرائم القتل والتعذيب والاغتصاب التي قام بها جيش الاحتلال، فضلا عن كشف الأسلحة المحرمة دوليا التي استخدمت خلال الحرب بالفلوجة والنجف وغيرها من مدن العراق. وأضاف: أصبح لدينا بالعراق صحف ووسائل إعلام مختلفة وصلت إلى 240 صحيفة و44 فضائية و60 إذاعة لكنها إما سنية وإما شيعية وإما كردية وإما حكومية وإما دينية تابعة لطائفة ما وبعضها يتبع أحزابا وشخصيات سياسية، وكانت تحاول عكس صورة معينة إلى العراقيين بما يخدم أهدافها، وأصبحت الاستقلالية مجرد مصطلح عابر لها.ـ
واتهم الفلاحي نقابة الصحافيين العراقيين باللهث خلف توافه الأمور قائلا: "النقابة تحاول أن تجعل نفسها وصية على الإعلاميين وتحصر جميع الكتاب والإعلاميين تحت خيمتها كي تسهل السيطرة على أقلامهم، والحكومة تدعم ذلك وهي تمني وتعِد الإعلاميين الذين يقفون إلى جانبها بتخصيص مالي وقِطع أراضٍ، وهذا منافٍ للنزاهة الصحافية، وباتت تحاول إسقاط أي إعلامي يقف إلى الجانب الآخر وهو جانب الاستقلال وعدم الولاء لجهة أو حزب ما، وتتبع سياسية الإقصاء والاستهداف لأية جمعية أو منظمة صحافية أخرى تكون مستقلة".ـ
ويرى الفلاحي أنه من الأجدر بنقابة الصحافيين أن تنأى عن كل ما هو حكومي، وأن تمارس دور السلطة الرابعة "لكنها أسهمت في تخلف الإعلام العراقي وما زالت على هذا النهج وأغلب قياديها مسيَّسون وتغرق في المجاملة على حساب المهنية الصحافية".ـ
ويتواجد في بغداد أكثر من 100 صحافي أجنبي موزعين على 60 مكتبا ببغداد يتمتعون بحصانة لا يملكها الصحافي العراقي في التنقل ودخول الدوائر الرسمية وكذلك الحماية، مما منحهم حرية الكتابة والبحث الاستقصائي.ـ
الإعلام العربي مُقيَّد:ـ
حول مدى فاعلية الإعلام العربي في العراق في مرحلة ما بعد الاحتلال، قال رئيس جمعية الكتاب الوطنيين: "هم مشلولون ومقيدو الحركة من قِبَل الحكومة، ومع ما يملكونه من إمكانات بشرية وفنية كبيرة، لكنهم فتحوا آذانهم إلى الإعلام الأجنبي كونه أكثر جرأة، وخير دليل على ذلك هو كشف القناة الألمانية لجرائم الحرب التي ارتكبها الأميركيون في الفلوجة قبل الإعلام العربي الذي كان متواجدا فيها خلال الحرب وبعدها، ونحن نعذرهم في كثير من الأمر لأنهم كما أسلفت قد يُقتلون أو يُطردون إذا ما كشفوا شيئا من هذا القبيل، وعليهم أن يدرسوا سبب إخفاقهم الذي أظنه غير متعمد".ـ
وتابع حديثه قائلا: "العامل المادي له تأثير، حيث نشاهد هنا الصحافيين الأجانب محاطين بجيش من أفراد شركات الحماية الأمنية، وبسيارات مصفحة، لكن الإعلاميين العرب وكذلك زملاؤهم العراقيون كانوا يمشون على أقدامهم أو بسياراتهم الرخيصة التي يسهل استهدافها من قِبَل المسلحين أو فرق الاغتيالات التابعة للأحزاب، وهذا عامل أساس في خوفهم لكشف الحقائق".ـ
وبسؤاله عن تقرير الجمعية السنوي، الذي وصف أغلب الصحافيين الذين قُتلوا بالعراق بأنهم اغتيلوا من قِبَل جهات سياسية وحزبية منظمة قال: "نعم الترويع لوسائل الإعلام العراقية كان ذا تأثير كبير وكمَّم الأفواه وأجبر الكثير على التملق والمجاملة والتواطؤ وعدم نشر الكثير من الحقائق، ومن رفض السير على خطاهم قُتل أو اغتيل، وكثير منهم هرب إلى الدول العربية المجاورة والخليجية خاصة، لكنهم مع الأسف وُضعوا في قالب بعيد عن القالب العراقي، وشحَّت مصادرهم الخبرية والمعلوماتية لذا كانت هناك دعوة من قِبَل الجمعية هذا العام بتقريرها السنوي للصحافيين المناهضين للاحتلال والتدخل الإيراني والإعلاميين المعنيين بشؤون مكافحة الفساد بالعراق إلى الكتابة بأسماء حركية أو وهمية حماية لأنفسهم ودعوة أخرى لتشكيل مواقع على الإنترنت تكون أكثر حرية في طرح الكثير من الملفات العراقية". ـ

Baghdad - City of Walls

After six years of occupation, hundreds of thousands Iraqis dead, four to five million Iraqis displaced, five thousand American soldiers dead and tens of billions of dollars siphoned, one end result is that Baghdad is a City of Walls.
This is a series of four videos (10-12 minutes each) by Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, a Baghdad-born award-winning photographer and journalist for the Guardian. The series was shown on Al-Jazeera English channel in its Witness program. The last in the series (part 4) is the most recently filmed and is definitely worth seeing .

The misery in Iraq after six years of occupation
.
A main reason for not posting lately was that I was kept waiting for many days for the English translation of an importnat speech delivered by Dr Omar Al-Kubaisi to the members of the European Parliament which I had already posted in its entirety in its Arabic version on March 2o, 2009:
16 - Lack of safe potable water for more than 70% of the population and the continuing lack of electricity as well as the lack of proper sanitation.
17 - The highest rates of infant and newborn mortality in the world.
18 - In Iraq after the occupation:
o More than five million are displaced.
o More than 4 million are below poverty level.
o Approximately, 2 million widows.
o Five million orphans.
o Insufficient food for more than eight million.
o More than 400,000 have been detainees and prisoned.
o More than 28% of the population is unemployed. ........"

To abbreviate my talk, and because of the constraints of time, leaflets in English will be handed out to you which will give you a clear picture in numbers which reflect the state of my country's health. These numbers are not a figment of the imagination, but are numbers taht are extracted from studies and follow up reports carried out by international professional and humanitarian organizations, institutions and societies, that are referred to opposite each fact and number mentioned.
As for the reality on the ground, CDs will be handed out to you which will, in pictures, reflect and document a little of the suffering of the Iraqi people from the terror of bombardment and bombing, the destruction of infrastructure, violence and terror, the killings which has targeted the people and its doctors, its efficient professionals, and its scientists and academics as well as the forced displacement of people inside and outside Iraq; the suffering of women as well as the widows and the orphans and the spread of crime and sickness and epidemics; the spread of commercialization of bad medicines and addictive drugs; the internally displaced refugee camps; their conditions as well as the condition of the detainees in the prisons of the occupation as well as in those of the imposed authority.

However, suffice it for me to state that we are in a country that:
1- 70% of its doctors have emigrated.
2- It has lost more than 5,500 of its scientists and academics, killed, imprisoned, or emigrated.
3- 70% of its hospitals have minimum standard performance, below the required standards in the remnants of what is destroyed, raided, or stolen.
4- 90% of medicines in pharmacies is neither analysed nor is it registered or is bad or corrupt and contaminated; it is brought on to the black market across the borders by ghost companies and a country in which thousands of unlicensed pharmacies and drug depots exist, run by people who are not pharmacists.
5- Its hospitals are used as centers for ethnic and sectarian physical liquidation and terror by the militias.
6- The Ministry of Health is part of a sectarian quota division system that specifies the identity of the minister and the directors general and is controlled by the theocratic political parties as well as the religious and sectarian militias. It is an institution in which financial and administrative corruption prevails and according to the Transparency Committee, more than 2 Billion US Dollars have disappeared as a result of phony ghost contracts and bribery.
7- There is no supervisory or monitoring role to be mentioned by the present parliamentarians who are doctors, but on the contrary, their interference may cause a negative effect on the size and the nature of the financial and administrative corruption.
8- Widespread mental illness and drug addiction and the widespread growth of opium poppy plantations and opium for the first time since occupation.
9- Alteration of basic medical purchase requirements and their replacement with insignificant lists and invoices..
10- The spread of epidemics and the loss of credibility of all statistics and the lack of statistics of cholera, Measles, Diphtheria and Whooping Cough, and Toxoplasmosis and a worsening situation of Tuberculosis and HIV Aids.
11- Unsafe imported foods.
12- A rise of incidence in cancer and the nature of the registered cases recently and a rise in cases of congenital malformation as due to the aggravated complications as a result of radioactive pollution and the burning down of trees. Pollution of rivers, as a result of the collapse of the sewage system, particularly in the Middle and the South caused by the use of Depleted Uranium and White Phosphorous as well as Cluster Bombs, and the prevention by the occupation forces of remedial measures and surveys to discover the polluted locations for sterilization and cleansing.
13- The proliferation of landmines in the sites of the old wars, as well as unexploded ordinance, especially in Basra and in the border areas.
14- Loss of cooperation and harmony with the humanitarian and voluntary organizations, such as the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and others, as well as financial corruption in the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, and the escape outside Iraq, of its President with US protection.
