"We, the undersigned Iraqi intellectuals who have experienced the intellectual ordeal in the shadow of despotic rule and who continue to contest the ‘liberalism’ of the new occupation, protest this unjust verdict against al-Adab and its editor-in-chief and manager. In solidarity with al-Adab, we have decided to re-publish in full the editorial, subject of the above mentioned unjust lawsuit, thus announcing our solidarity with its every word and with its mission to expose the fraudulent left, the apologists for occupation, the advisors to the President, and the enemies of freedom; we also affirm our faith in al-Adab as an ally to the Iraqis and a supporter of a free, independent and pluralistic Iraq, that resists occupation and Zionism".

وصلت للعظم
ـ القضية أثيرت بعد افتتاحية نشرتها في مجلة "الآداب" عام 2007 انتقدتُ فيها المثقفين العرب الذين يتصدون لـ "البنى التقليدية والمتخلفة والسلطات القومية الديكتاتورية والظلامية" ثم يَمْتدحون "الاعتدالَ العربي ، والمُرونةَ المصرية ، والواقعيةَ الفلسطينية ، والعقلانيةَ الأميريكية". وانتقلتُ فيها إلى تناول تجمع ثقافي أقيم في كردستان العراق كمثال على الحالة التي ذكرت. فانتقدتُ المثقفين الذين حضروا "مهرجان المدى" وطبّلوا وزمّروا لديمقراطية كردستان العراق ، متغاضين عن كل الأوضاع الشاذة هناك: من أوضاع السجون ، إلى الاعتقالات التعسفية ، إلى وضع المرأة التي تتعرض لجرائم شرف متزايدة ، إلى واقع الموساد الإسرائيلي هناك. كما ذكّرتُ بالدمار والقتل الذي ألحقه الحزبان الكرديان الرئيسيان بعد حرب 1991 ، وبالدور الذي لعبته أميركا ، التي دعمت الطالباني ، في تشجيع صدّام حسين على ضرب الأكراد بعد الحرب العراقيةـ الإيرانية. فما كان من "فخري كريم" إلا أن رفع قضية قدح وذمّ ضدي وضد "الآداب" لدى المحاكم اللبنانية ، انتهت بصدور حكم يقضي بتغريمي ووالدتي عايدة مطرجي كمدير مسؤول للمجلة ، مبلغ ستة ملايين ليرة لبنانية (4 آلاف دولار) ، وإلزامنا بدفع مبلغ مئة ألف ليرة كتعويض رمزي للمدعي فخري كريم ـ
ماذا كان عساه أن يفعل؟.
ـ أولا السؤال لا يختص به ، وإنما بحرية الرأي ونشر المعلومات في لبنان ، التي يُفترض أن يكفلها القانون ويجب على السلطات القضائية أن تحميها. فاللجوء إلى القضاء ، بحسب الأعراف هنا ، لا يكون إلا إذا تمنّعت الوسيلة الإعلامية عن نشر الرد. وقد قامت مجلة "الآداب" ، بالفعل ، بنشر ثمانية عشر مقالا موالية للسيد فخري كريم ونظامه ، على الرغم من أنّ بعضَها يتهمني بـ "العواءً الكريه والعمالة لصدّام" ، ويتّهم الموقعين على الوثيقة التي دعمت "الآداب" في قضيتها بأقذع النعوت. ـ
ـ الوثيقة المذكورة وثيقةَ شرف بين أنصار الكلمة الحرة نشرتها جريدة "الأخبار" ، ووقّعها أكثر من ألف عامل في الشأن الثقافي والسياسي والقانوني من منطلق التضامن مع حرية التعبير.
علام نصّت الوثيقة ، وما مستندها القانوني؟.
ـ نصت الوثيقة على التالي: "انطلاقاً من الإيمان المطلق بحرية الفكر ، نشجب شجباً مطلقاً لجوء أيّ مواطن عربي إلى المحاكم لمقاضاة صاحب رأي أو ناشر معلومة أو محلّل لوضع ما أو سيرة ما أو عهد ما إلا في حال تمنُع الوسيلة الإعلامية عن نشر الرأي المضاد. فالفكر لا يجابَه إلا بالفكر".
وهل تشمل حرية الفكر التناول الشخصي؟.
ـ الفكر لا يحمله إلا أشخاص ولا يمثله إلا أشخاص، القضية ليست قضية حرية فكرية فقط ، وإنما حرية نشر المعلومات ما دام الكاتب يستطيع تبيان مصدر الحقيقة وما دام الناشر يترك مجالا للتصحيح والرد. من دون المعلومات لا يمكن للإعلام أن يقارع الفساد في الساحة الثقافية ، فكيف نثير قضية المال في الثقافة العربية المعاصرة إذا لم نعرًّ دوره في التبعية والارتهان الثقافيين؟. الحق أنه لا ثقافة عربية حقيقية من دون استقلال مالي عن الأنظمة والمؤسسات الدولية. هذا هو السؤال الحقيقي في الطريق إلى ثقافة عربية نقدية حقيقية. Collateral Murder ...حمى القتل بدم بارد لدى الآلة العسكرية الأمريكية
صباح يوم 12/7/2007، فتحت مروحية أمريكية النار على ما يقارب الخمسة عشر من المدنيين العراقيين، قتل اغلبهم، بمن فيهم صحفيين عراقيين من وكالة رويترز، ومجموعة من الذين اتوا لإخلاء جريح، واصيب طفلين ـ
هذا هو الرابط الذي تشاهدون من خلاله العملية مصورة بكاميرا المروحية الامريكية، مع تعليقات الجنود القتلة، وأوامر القيادة. وتم تسريب هذا الفيديو الى موقع ويكي ليكس المختص بكشف الوثائق السرية للحكومة الأمريكية ـ
ويثبت الفيديو بما لا يدع مكانا للشك حمى القتل بدم بارد لدى الآلة العسكرية الأمريكية، وبالامكان سماع الجنود القتلة يقولون "جميل..جميل" على منظر الجثث الميتة، وسماع احتجاجاتهم على تأخر أوامر القيادة باطلاق النار على السيارة التي اتت لتسعف الجريح.ـ
"On 5th April 2010 10:44 EST WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad (on 12 July 2007) -- including two Reuters news staff.
Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded."

"I saw the video of the helicopter attack and, to put it mildly, I was furious... it's obvious why both Bush and Obama don't want the rest of the world to see the war crimes that their lovely little armies of occupation have been perpetrating against Iraq and Afghanistan, on a daily basis. (And, incidentally, why the U.S. Department of Defense has been waging a cyber-war against Wikileaks. God bless the founder of that Website, for speaking truth to criminal power.)
This despicable act was a war atrocity, pure and simple, and of course nobody has been or will be prosecuted for it. Bush is a war criminal, for allowing this set of atrocities. Obama is a war criminal, for suppressing the evidence. Both of them need to be brought in front of the International War Crimes Court and need to be handed stiff jail sentences. Let's put them next to Slobodan Milosevic, they can discuss "how best to murder civilians" for the rest of their days.
As you watch the video, ask yourself one simple question : "If the helpless victims of the Apache 25mm Chain Gun shown in this footage were really 'insurgents', would they be wandering around, seemingly totally at ease, in the middle of a street?" Did you notice the whining, petulant American Apache pilot repeatedly pestering his CO for "permission to fire", as if he was being hard done-by? I was feeling sick to the stomach as I watched these helpless people trying desperately, with unbelievable bravery, under a hail of automatic cannon fire, to pull their wounded friends to somewhere safe (emphasis added).. but of course there was nowhere safe from the 'brave' American gunship pilots. You bastards, up there in the Apache. I hope there's a nice IED waiting for you, on your next trip through Iraq.
The point is that the Apache pilots HAD to know that they were firing at unarmed civilians; but like their forefathers in Vietnam, these 'brave young American soldiers' basically couldn't care less. Lately, I have been reading Michael Maclear's excellent book, "The Ten Thousand Day War", and it reads like a verbatim transcript of what has been going on over the last decade in Iraq and Afghanistan (with, BTW, Hamid Karzai starring in the lead role as Ngo Dinh Diem).
The Americans don't learn; they don't change; they just keep on doing what they do best, which is indiscriminately kill and destroy, always aiming at poor, helpless Third World people who can hardly fire back.
What cowards American sonofabitches are, sitting in their high-tech armored helicopter gunships (and B-52s), spewing death and destruction from a safe position way above their victims. What a bunch of fucking arrogant, yellow-bellied, faux 'tough-guy bullies'. Unlike other NATO troops such as the Canadians, French or British, they're fundamentally afraid to risk their own lives by getting out of their APCs and gunships and meeting the locals on a fair battlefield, so they hide in their high-tech fortresses and use cluster bombs as a substitute for diplomacy.
They have been doing this kind of cruel, stupid shit for 40+ years and they'll keep on doing it, until someone makes it so painful for them that they have no choice but to stop.
Please, God, will someone -- anyone -- completely destroy an entire American army in the field, so they can't possibly not get the message that they can't keep on committing atrocities against the rest of the world.
